3 Top Tier LinkedIn Posts...

and what we can learn from them.

As you can imagine, my job requires me to spend a lot of time on social media. A lot of time scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. Most things don’t catch the eye, but a few do. And when they do, it’s always worth taking a closer look.

Why did this make me stop? What’s it doing that works? And what can I learn from it?

Here are three such LinkedIn posts that made me stop in the past week or so…

1. Simon Squibb — Singer’s Dream

If you don’t know Simon Squibb, he’s an entrepreneur that takes to the streets asking people a simple question: “What’s your dream?” He then tries to help them, either with advice, money, or connections, to achieve their dream.

His social feeds are full of success stories; people who had a chance encounter with him and now are doing what they've always wanted to do. But the above video is different.

On the surface, it’s a failure. The girl, who wants to be a singer, is too embarrassed to sing in front of Simon (and his huge audience). She has no idea that she’s standing in front of someone who can genuinely make her dreams come true. And so she misses the opportunity.

What’s great about this post is that Simon uses this ‘failure’ to illustrate an important lesson.

We never know how close we are to success, to everything changing. Capitilise on every opportunity, because you never know what it will lead to.

2. Sophie Miller — Engagement lower than normal?

Sophie has mastered the personal brand / business brand balance on LinkedIn, maybe better than anyone. Her brand, Pretty Little Marketer, and her personal profile both rack up mega impressions and engagements every month.

This post makes use of a simple but classic formula:

1. Identify a common issue

In this case: People seeing a lack of engagement on their LinkedIn posts.

2. Approach with empathy

I.e - Not the “Just get good” “Write better posts” sort of thing you often see.

3. Offer actionable solutions based on experience

A list of things you can do right now that might help you.

All simple stuff on the surface. But stuff that works.

3. Jasmin Alic - Commenting on LinkedIn Strategy

Most people will tell you that value is the name of the game. Give away 99% of what you know for free and charge for implementation.

The problem is: a lot of this stuff feels like noise. Conflicting information and gurus everywhere and no clear direction of travel.

This post didn’t feel like that to me. This one felt invaluable. It’s simple. It’s clear. But it’s no ‘shortcut’ or ‘easy answer’. It’s something anyone can do but few will.

It felt so valuable to me that I decided to write this newsletter entry so I would always have the link. So hopefully it’s useful for you too.

See you next week!

Daniel 😁
